I know most people don’t think or wonder about things the way I do. And that’s OK. It’s the way it should be. But there are a few out there that are seeking answers as I have. I know it is a hard path: one that takes effort and courage. It’s a path with many blind alleys. So I feel compelled to leave bread crumbs so other seekers can at least get as far as I have along the path.
Here’s a message for that seeker.
Where does one come from? Where does the number one come from?
Our normal mental concept of one comes from our mind creating a boundary around things. It comes from an artifact of how our brain must operate to have knowledge. But is that the source of the number one? What happens if we expand or get rid of the boundary?
Look at a number one on a page. Become aware of the boundary your mind is making to distinguish it from other things.
Now mentally move the boundary farther out. Then farther out. Then farther out. We still can have a feeling of one. The source of one is not dependent on the boundary our mind sets.
Now take the boundary out all the way and destroy the boundary. By doing this we see that one is not defined by the mental boundary. By doing this we create a bigger concept of one that is closer to the source of the number one.
Look at one thing from where you stand. Become aware of the boundary your mind is creating to define that thing. Mentally expand that boundary farther and farther. Expand the boundary to a mile away, two miles away, and even to the edge of existence. Is there still one thing?
We see things through the mechanics of our mind. But some of what we mentally see is not solid in reality. Some of what we see is simply a mental projection. The source of one is bigger than our mind.
This applies to our sense of identity also. We place a boundary around a certain set of ideas, thoughts, perceptions, and feelings and we say “That is me, that is my identity.”
But you may find that you can move the boundary. If you can move the mental boundary, is it possible that the real source of you, of your identity, is bigger than what your mind had previously assumed.
What if there is no boundary? What would be the source of you? What would YOU be?
The path can be hard, but along the correct path, life gets lighter.
I think this issue is a very important one for all people of our country. Normally I would keep my thoughts to myself and my close loved ones, but this issue is reaching a point of urgency.
The numbers are easy
$ 17,000,000,000,000 U.S. Debt
$123,000,000,000,000 Unfunded US Mandates
$140,000,000,000,000 Total US Debt Obligation Divided by
320,000,000 Total US Population
$437,500 US Debt for Each Man, Woman, and Child in the Country
1.75 Million$ US Debt for a Family of 4
Living to a Balanced budget is not in the interest of a politician. But everyone in our country will suffer the consequences of this uncontrolled spending. We are not talking about a minor collapse of financial markets.
Politicians work for you – take their VISA Charge Card away – tell them you want a balanced budget!!
No Excuses – The Spider Web
Once upon a time there was a young spider that had just left home to make his way in the world. He had been walking for days and days and was getting very hungry.
“I’m so hungry and I don’t know what to do,” he said to himself.
An ant that happened to be passing by overheard the spider and told him to go see the wise old owl in the hollow of the oak tree. So the young spider took the recommendation and went to see the owl.
As he approached the owl, the spider lamented, “I’m hungry and don’t know what to do.”
The owl said, “Build a web or starve.” The spider replied, “But I’m too young.” The owl said, “Build a web or starve.”
The spider went away and tried to build a web, but the wind came and blew it down.
The next day the spider went back to the owl. “It’s too hard. The wind just came and blew my web down.”
The owl said, “Build a web or starve”
The spider went away and started to build the web again, but a rabbit came dashing through the woods and destroyed the web.
The next day the spider went back to the owl “I can’t figure it out and the rabbits just run through my web and destroy it.”
The owl said, “Build a web or starve”
The spider was so frustrated! He left the owl and went about again making his web. He worked so hard and made a great web, but that night a branch broke from a tree and fell right into the spider’s web and totally destroyed it. The next morning the spider stomped into the owl’s hollow.
“You are supposed to be wise but you keep saying the same thing, ‘Build a web or starve. Build a web or starve.’ Well, I keep doing what you say and it doesn’t work. My web gets destroyed every time I build it.”
The owl said, “Build a web or starve” The spider yelled back, “Can’t you say anything else?”
The old owl didn’t say anything for a minute. He turned his head right, and he turned his head left. Then he looked right at the spider and said, “In life we are either growing or we are dying. There is no staying the same. Life accepts no excuses. Making your web is a choice to live. Making excuses and giving up is a path that leads away from that. No Excuses!”
This hit the spider like a ton of bricks! He finally understood what the owl meant. He got to work right away. He built 54 complete spider webs in the next week. If one got destroyed, he had others that were catching bugs. As soon as one was gone, he built another. He turned his life around and became a very famous builder of spider webs and was an inspirational teacher to all spiders.
Finally, even the Emperor of Japan wanted to know the secret behind the spider’s great success so he could teach all his samurai warriors how to become that successful. When he asked the spider what his secret was, do you know what the spider said? Just two words. “No Excuses!”

The Fulfillment of Your Heart’s True Desire.
In a recent visit from Shihan Minakami, 8th Degree Black Belt from the Hayashi Ha Shitoryu Karate Organization, he mentioned to the students to master their Karate by paying attention and doing their best each moment they are in class. This is a BIG SECRET!!
It’s a big secret because people choose not to hear it and use it!
And as Shihan Minakami talked, you could understand he was not just talking about Martial Arts. He talked about using that same mind set when you walk outside, when you live your life, even when you are brushing your teeth. He emphasized paying attention, seeing what life is REALLY telling you, and discriminating if you could continually improve your life in some way.
This is not esoteric wisdom. This is Practical Wisdom that gives a return on your investment for every moment you can live in this mind set.
Shihan’s quick comments are not new. Many years ago I found a tiny book that explained the same way to Really Live your life. It was written back in 1919 by a Great Industrialist who was richer than Andrew Carnegie and who was known for his wisdom. The name on the book was Clement Watt. The title of the book, “Something You Should Know – The Fulfillment of Your Hearts Desire” It’s just 63 pages long but carries one of the biggest messages. It explains more of what Shihan’s comments began. If you find a copy of this book it would be worth your while.
The answers you look for already exist. You can find them if you pay attention and don’t dismiss them. But you will still not find the life you want if you don’t implement and practice the answer.
